Spring 2024 Councilor Report

Council selected Rigoberto Hernandez and Laura Sremaniak as candidates for 2025 President-Elect. These two candidates will join Mukund Chorghade, a petition candidate, and any additional candidates selected via petitions to stand for election in the Fall 2024 National Election.

Council approved the creation of International Chemical Sciences Chapters in Egypt and Guangdong, China, subject to the concurrence of the ACS Board of Directors.

Council approved changing the name of the Division of Biological Chemistry (BIOL) to the Division of Biochemistry and Chemical Biology (BIOL), effective January 1, 2025.

Council approved changing the name of the Auburn Section to the East Alabama/West Georgia Section, effective January 1, 2025.

Good news: The ACS membership dues will not change for 2025. In 2023, ACS counted 100,060 regular Members, 3,336 Society Affiliates and 101,607 Community Associates.

The ACS Spring 2024 meeting was in New Orleans from March 17-21. There were 14,368 registrations (13,122 in-person and 1,246 online).  The ACS Fall 2024 meeting will be held in Denver, CO August 18-22, 2024.

Want to be active in ACS Governance?  Anyone who is interested in serving on an ACS Committee in 2025 should submit an online preference form. This online form is now open through July 1st. As an incentive, all Committee Members can participate in the Volunteer Travel Reimbursement Program. The annual allotment is $1,740 to help cover the cost of attending a meeting and can be split into $870 for the spring and $870 for the fall meeting if desired.
