SAS 2020 Yeager Awardee Named

Ryan Reffner

Ryan Reffner, an undergraduate student at Lorain County Community College in Elyria, Ohio, has been selected by the Cleveland Section of the Society for Applied Spectroscopy as the recipient of the 2020 Ernest B. Yeager Award. The Cleveland Section of the Society for Applied Spectroscopy established the Ernest B. Yeager Award in 1962 for the primary purpose of encouraging interest at the undergraduate level in spectroscopy and analytical chemistry. The list of recipients of this honor since 1962 now reads as a who’s who list of young undergraduate students who proceed to astonishing careers. Ryan Reffner’s receipt of the award this year is in itself a landmark, as the first time that this prestigious honor
has been awarded to a community college student. Ryan’s award consists of a certificate, a $400 honorarium, and a one year complementary membership in the Society for Applied Spectroscopy.
Further, Ryan will be recognized at the 2021 May Conference at John Carroll University, organized by the Cleveland Section of the Society for Applied Spectroscopy.
